Why is the "Amount Spent" in Cometly slightly different than Facebook
Why is the "Amount Spent" in Cometly slightly different than Facebook
Updated over 2 years ago

If there is a slight difference in Facebook data in Cometly (such as 'Amount Spent') compared to your Facebook ads manager for "yesterday" date, it is due to one of the following 3 reasons:

  1. Your Cometly currency is different from your Facebook ad account currency

  2. Your Cometly timezone is different from your Facebook ad account timezone

  3. Facebook has not finished processing your data from previous days

1. Your Cometly currency is different from your Facebook ad account currency

When you created your Cometly account you were prompted to choose a currency for your Cometly account. Your Cometly account will automatically convert all data (from both Facebook and Shopify) into the currency that you chose when creating your account.

So, if your Cometly account and your Facebook ad account are in different currencies, then your statistics will be different due to this conversion.

For example, if your Cometly account is in USD but your Facebook ad account is in Euro, then the amount you spend each day on Facebook will be automatically converted from Euro to USD.

2. Your Cometly timezone is different from your Facebook ad account timezone

When you created your Cometly account you were prompted to choose a timezone for your Cometly account. Your Cometly account will automatically convert all data (from both Facebook and Shopify) into that timezone.

So, if your Cometly account and your Facebook ad account are in different timezones, then your statistics will be different due to this conversion.

For example, let’s say that yesterday you ran one ad for 24 hours that spent $1 per hour starting. In your Facebook ads manager, you will see that you spent $24 “yesterday”.

BUT if your Cometly account is in a timezone that is 4 hours behind your Facebook ad account, then in your cometly account you will see that you spent $20 “Yesterday” and $4 “Today”.

This is because Cometly reports all of your statistics in real time, but those statistics are converted to be reported in terms of your Cometly account’s time zone.

3. Facebook has not finished processing your data from previous days

After a full 24 hour cycle has completed while running a Facebook ad, the data inside your Facebook ads manager actually still continues to change.

Yes, most people do not realize this because it is a very small difference but when the day ends, Facebook is not done processing your ad data and sometimes it will change the ad data in your ad account up to 24 hours past the day ending.

Cometly has a built-in "Days Back" algorithm that will go back 1,2,3 days and search for any additional data Facebook has added to your previous days. Once we find the additional data we will pull it through to Cometly and update those days for you in your Cometly account

For example, immediately when the day ends at 12:00am if you look at the "Amount Spent" in your ads manager it might show $1,000. But after 1 or 2 days when you go back to look at that specific previous day, it might then show $1,005. Facebook has finished processing your data and there is a difference of $5.00.

Cometly will see this and update your Cometly account accordingly.
