Easily setup our Intercom integration to send new lead contacts (with email addresses) to Cometly and map to the event of your choice.
How It Works
Cometly will automatically create two new attributes in your Intercom account called Cometly tracking token and Cometly Space ID. When a new lead is created that has an email address, it will send over to Cometly automatically. We use the Cometly tracking token identify the lead back to the original user journey.
Step 1: Authenticate with Intercom
Navigate to the Intercom integration within your Cometly account and click Sync
Step 2: Place Code on your Website
You need to place code on your website so the Cometly tracking token and Cometly space ID attributes in Intercom are updated when a new lead chats in through the widget.
Login to your Cometly account, navigate to the Intercom integration and paste the code before the </body> on your website.
Click Copy Snippet To Clipboard
Step 3: Map the new lead created from Intercom to a event in Cometly
On the Intercom integration page inside Cometly, map the new lead from intercom event to a Cometly event of your choice.
Important Considerations for Event Mapping
When sending Lead events to Cometly from Intercom and other platforms, here’s what to consider:
If Intercom Leads Are Already in Your CRM:
If your CRM (e.g., HubSpot) already sends Intercom leads as part of its Lead events, create a separate event in Cometly, like "Chat Lead", for Intercom.
This way, you’ll see both Lead (from your CRM) and Chat Lead (from Intercom) in the customer journey, avoiding duplicates.
If Leads Are Sent from Multiple Sources:
If you send Lead events from different sources (e.g., forms, Intercom, CRM), you can include Intercom leads in the general Lead event.
Choose the setup that best fits your workflow to keep your tracking clear and accurate.
