How to use the Cometly report builder

Updated over a week ago

This article will explain how to use the Cometly report builder.

Step 1: Select a report type

Select a report type from the list, currently there are 7 report types to choose from:

  • Line

  • Column

  • Bar

  • Area

  • Pie

  • Table

  • KPI

Step 2: Select a Date range and Metrics

Next, select the date range you would like the report to pull data for and the metric(s) you would like to include on the report.

Every 'Metric' in your Cometly account will show up inside the metric dropdown. This includes all ad metrics and conversion metrics such as custom events, etc.

Pro Tip: There are many metrics, use the "Search" box to search for the metric you want. As you type, the list will narrow down.

Step 3: Select Sources (Optional)

Selecting sources is optional for generating a report, leaving this blank is the same as selecting "All Sources"

You can select as many or as few sources as you want for a report.

Step 4: Select Filters (Optional)

Next, you can select filters to narrow down your report.

Example filter report: You are analyzing this week's purchases and you want to use a Country filter to see how many are from the United States.

Below we will highlight a few cool filters:

Filter by:

'Country'

Filter by country to narrow down your report to specific countries.

'URL'

Filter by 'URL' to narrow down by specific URL's to determine the performance of specific landing pages. Use 'URL Contains' and then input a specific word in the URL of your landing page.

'Campaign Name' or 'Ad Set Name' or 'Ad Name'

Using Campaign, Ad Set or Ad 'Name' filters, you can filter your results down by specific naming conventions found in your campaign, ad set or ad names.

This is a powerful filter if you use accurate naming conventions in your ad names. This will allow you to filter down by audiences, ad copy, headlines, creatives, etc.

For example: 'Ad Name' > 'Contains' > 'Red Image' would allow you to view the performance of all of your ads specifically using the 'Red Image' creative.

Date Filtering

Use date filters to filter down by events like 'first purchase date' or 'first lead date' to determine when a customer first purchased or became a lead.

'Original source date' and 'Latest source date' filters allow you to filter down to determine when customers first engaged with you or last engaged.

Step 5: Select an Attribution Model & Window

Attribution means allocating credit to a specific ad or channel that influenced a customer's purchase.

What is Attribution Modeling?

Attribution modeling is the method used to allocate credit to various marketing channels or touchpoints in a customer's journey that lead to a sale or conversion. The primary aim of attribution modeling is to assess the effectiveness of different marketing activities, helping to distribute marketing resources more effectively.

Cometly offers 8 different attribution models - to learn about each model please review our Cometly Attribution Models and Attribution Windows article.

An attribution window is a defined period of time during which events are tracked and attributed to a marketing source or ad.

Cometly offers 7 different attribution windows.

  • LTV (Lifetime Value): Measures the total revenue a customer generates over their entire relationship with a business.

  • 1 Day: Attributes conversions that occur within 1 day of the initial interaction.

  • 7 Day: Attributes conversions that occur within 7 days.

  • 14 Day: Attributes conversions that occur within 14 days.

  • 30 Day: Attributes conversions that occur within 30 days.

  • 60 Day: Attributes conversions that occur within 60 days.

  • 90 Day: Attributes conversions that occur within 90 days.

Step 6: Select a 'Group By' option

You can group the data by 'Time' or 'Source' (In the near future there will be many more options for this)

Grouping by 'Time' allows you to analyze data over the specific 'Time' period you've selected in the date range.

You will also be able to view the data by 'day' 'week' 'month' 'quarter' 'year'

Grouping by 'Source' will let you analyze the data by source.

Pro Tip: It's recommended to use the 'Display only sources with data' option to remove all of the sources with '0' data
