How to Build an Off-Page SEO Report in Cometly

Learn how to build a report in Cometly to track referral traffic, measure backlink performance, and improve your off-page SEO.

Updated over a week ago

Step 1: Create a Dedicated SEO Dashboard

To stay organized:

  • Create a new dashboard in Cometly.

  • Name it clearly (e.g., "SEO" or "Off-Page SEO").

  • Use consistent report names such as "Blog Referrals" or "Backlink Traffic Report".

Step 2: Build a New Report

  • Click Edit Report on an existing tile, or create a new report in your SEO dashboard.

  • Name the report (e.g., "Off-Page SEO – Referrer Traffic").

  • Choose the Table view for clear, easy-to-read data.

Step 3: Set Your Date Range

  • Use a rolling date range (e.g., Last 30 days) to keep your report automatically updated.

  • Adjust the date range as needed for broader or more focused analysis.

Step 4: Choose Your Metrics

  • Select key performance metrics such as:

    • Add to Cart

    • Purchase

    • Or any custom events configured in your Events Manager.

💡 Not sure which metrics to include? Open your Events Manager to see all available options.

Step 5: Filter by Traffic Source

  • In the Sources section, click Select Sources.

  • Choose Referral to isolate traffic from other websites.

  • (Optional) Add filters to narrow your analysis further.

Step 6: (Optional) Apply an Attribution Model

  • Use a specific attribution model and window for deeper insight.

  • Example: First Touch with a 30-day window to measure which referrer first brought in users who later converted.

Step 7: Group by Referrer

This is the key step:

  • Change the Group By setting from Source to Referrer.

  • This shows you which referring domains (e.g., chatgpt.com) are driving traffic and conversions.

(Optional) Exclude Irrelevant Referrers

To keep your data clean:

  • Go to Space SettingsTraffic Permissions.

  • Add any domains you want to exclude from reports.

Example Insight

Let’s say chatgpt.com sends traffic that results in 9 Add to Cart events—Cometly attributes this to the referring domain, giving you visibility into real off-page impact.

You're Done!
