We're excited for you to begin tracking your Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok ads to your website more effectively using Cometly 🎉

Below are step by step instructions for how to setup your company's website with Comet Events so you can begin using Cometly to scale your ads the right away:

Step 1: Connect your Integrations

Connect your Facebook account and TikTok account to your Cometly Space. In order for Cometly to track data, you must connect both of these integrations.

  • A) Connect your Facebook profile to Cometly and select your ad accounts you want to track

    • Navigate to the Profile Integrations page in Cometly, and click "Connect" in the box that reads "Connect your Facebook ad accounts".

      • Cometly will automatically connect to whichever Facebook profile is logged in on the browser that you are using.

    • Authorize the Cometly app to pull ad data from Facebook

    • Inside Space Settings > Integrations, select which ad accounts you want to connect to the Space

  • B) Connect your TikTok profile to Cometly and select your ad accounts you want to track

    • Navigate to the Profile Integrations page in Cometly, and click "Connect" in the box that reads "Connect your TikTok ad accounts".

      • Cometly will automatically connect to whichever TikTok profile is logged in on the browser that you are using.

    • Authorize the Cometly app to pull ad data from TikTok

    • Inside Space Settings > Integrations, first click on the TikTok symbol under "Manage Ad Integrations" and select which ad accounts you want to connect to the Space

Step 2: Configure events on your website

On the left hand panel, navigate to Tracking > Tracking Setup, and on this page click the blue "Setup Comet Events" button.

A) Add the Comet Pixel base code to your site so that it loads on each webpage. This is typically done by adding it to the global header of your website.

  1. Locate the header code for your website

  2. Copy the Comet base code from the "Tracking Setup" page in your account

*Please note: your code will look slightly different from the code in the screenshot*

  3. Paste your base code just above the </head> tag for every page on your website. Most webpage builders have somewhere for you to place a universal head code on every page of your website.

*Please note: your code will look slightly different from the code in the screenshot*

B) Add your events

  1. Select the event categories that are meaningful to your business and choose how you'd like to track them.

  2. Place the event code on your form completion page.

  3. Add the event code just above the </body> tag. This allows the event code to load along with the Pixel code when the page loads.

Step 4: Setup the UTM parameters on your ALL of your ads

A) Setup the UTM Parameters on your Facebook Ads

  1. Navigate to the Facebook ads manager, select the campaigns you want to track and then navigate to the ad level. There should be a section titled "Destination" with a box for "Website URL".

  2. Paste this code ?utm_source=Facebook&utm_campaign={{ad.id}} onto the end of the Website URL of every ad in the campaigns you want to track

If you already use the above parameters or have a unique ad setup, please see the full article about setting up UTM Parameters on your Facebook ads, or contact support for help at support@cometly.com

B) Setup the UTM Parameters on your TikTok Ads

  1. Navigate to the TikTok ads manager, select the campaigns you want to track and then navigate to the ad level. There should be a section titled "Destination page" with a box for "Website" - "URL".

  2. Paste this code ?utm_source=Tiktok&utm_campaign=__CID__ onto the end of the Website URL of every ad in the campaigns you want to track

  3. If you already use the above parameters or have a unique ad setup, please see the full article about setting up UTM Parameters on your TikTok ads, or contact support for help at support@cometly.com

  • Important: Cometly will not be able to track sales for an ad if that ad does not have the correct UTM parameters setup!

Step 5: Import your existing campaigns by using the "Import Campaigns" page.

For any campaigns that you had running BEFORE installing the Cometly app in Facebook or TikTok, you will need to toggle tracking ON inside of Cometly's "Import Campaigns" page to pull data for those ads into Cometly's Ads Manager.
