We're excited for you to begin tracking your Facebook & Instagram ads to your Shopify store more effectively using Cometly 🎉

Below are step by step instructions for how to setup your Shopify store with Cometly so you can begin using this right away.

You can also find these instructions on your "Getting Started" page inside of your account.

Step 1: Connect your Integrations

Connect your Facebook account and Shopify store to your Cometly Space. In order for Cometly to track data, you must connect both of these integrations.

  • A) Connect your Facebook profile to Cometly and select your ad accounts you want to track

    • Cometly will automatically connect to whichever Facebook profile is logged in on the browser that you are using.

    • Authorize the Facebook Cometly app to pull ad data

    • Inside Space Settings > Integrations, select which ad accounts you want to connect to the Space

    • Toggle ON next to Conversion API data sharing in order to feed attribution data back to Facebook to feed Facebook’s AI for ad optimization.

  • B) Connect your Shopify store by copy and pasting your Shopify store URL into Cometly (Example: https://examplestore.myshopify.com)

    • Authorize the Shopify Cometly app to pull order data

Step 2: Setup the Comet Pixel on your Shopify store

A) Add the base pixel to theme before the closing body tag

  1. Navigate to "Online Store" in Shopify.

  2. Select "Actions" dropdown, and click "Edit Code"

  3. Select "theme.liquid" dropdown, and find the closing body tag </body>

  4. Paste the Cometly Base code just before the closing body tag </body>

  5. Click "Save"

B) Add the conversion pixel to checkout "Additional Scripts"

  1. Navigate to "Settings" in Shopify.

  2. Select "Checkout"

  3. Scroll down to "Additional Scripts"

  4. Add the script to "Post Purchase Page" and "Order Status Page"

  5. Click "Save" at the bottom.

Step 3: Setup the UTM parameters on your ads

  • Navigate to the ad level and select an ad that you want to track with Cometly. There should be a section titled "Destination" with a box for "Website URL".

  • Underneath that box, there is a line of blue text labeled "Build a URL Parameter". Click that to open up a popup (screenshots below)

  • Add in your UTM parameters here using {{ad.id}}

Important: Cometly ONLY tracks ads that use {{ad.id}}, you must use one of the options below in order for things to track accurately:

utm_campaign={{ad.id}}

utm_source={{ad.id}}

utm_medium={{ad.id}}

utm_term={{ad.id}}

utm_content={{ad.id}}

You do not need to use ALL of the above, just one :)

Step 4: Navigate to the Cometly "Campaign Tracker" and turn tracking "ON" for your ad campaign.

Step 5: Begin to optimize your ads using the Cometly ads manager

The Cometly ads manager will finally give you the accurate data that you’ve been dying to see! Navigate to the ads manager to see exactly which campaigns, ad sets and ads are generating results.
